Lorraine Caroline Dahlke Adkins, age 94, passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, May 26, 2012, surrounded by her family.

She was born on November 19, 1917, to John Lewis and Caroline Sara Noah Dahlke in Virginia, Idaho. She graduated from high school in Virginia and attended Idaho State College.

In 1940, she married James L. Adkins in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived in American Falls and later in Pocatello. After retirement, they built a home in Virginia at the old Dahlke family fish hatchery. Their last years were spend in Pocatello.

Active in the LDS church, she enjoyed singing in the choir. Her compassion for others made her a caring Relief Society President.

Lorraine took pleasure from raising a family and keeping a tidy and comfortable home. The aroma of fresh baked bread and cinnamon rolls were a common welcome at the end of school day for family and friends.

During her later life, she attended a writing class and left her family a treasure of rich stories – detailing experiences about her long life of almost a century. Her memories were full of farm life and hard work, the awe of seeing early airplanes, living through the depression, giving birth to her eldest child on the day Pearl Harbor was attacked, and learning to drive at age 60.

Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband James, parents John and Caroline, brothers Elwood and Bill, sisters Nelda and Carolene, and an infant brother and sister. She is survived by her brother Delvin (Anita); her children Linda Rawlins, Les Adkins (JuDee), Brent Adkins, and Gloria Lindhartsen (Greg); her 8 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

She had a long full life and she felt blessed to the very end. She will be deeply missed.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 1, 2012, at the Cedar 2^nd Ward Chapel, 550 W. Cedar. A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 31, 2012, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4^th Ave, and also one hour prior to the funeral service at the church. Burial will follow services at the Norton Cemetery in McCammon.
