Johnny Wilford “John” Nelson, 59, passed away at home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, August 16, 2014.

He was born in Pocatello, Idaho on February, 22, 1955, to Kyle and Dorothy Nelson.

He attended grades 1-12 in Pocatello, graduating in 1973 from Pocatello High School.

In 1977, he married Laurel Sivley Nelson in Walla Walla, Washington.

John was employed at Montgomery Ward for 15 years as a Service Technician, and Sears, for 30 years, as the Technician Manager covering Utah, Idaho, and Montana.

John loved the outdoors and fishing, hunting, and camping. He enjoyed teaching his grandson to hunt. He loved baseball and basketball and when he was younger, he played and coached.

We have lost a kind compassionate teacher of many skills and life lessons. Fair minded and positive in attitude were hallmarks of John’s persona.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kyle Nelson, sister, Marie Ely, and grandparents, Wilford Nelson and Margurite Nelson.

John was like part of the family for so many years while he was growing up. When he was older, although we didn't see as much of any of you, we still consider you all family as well as friends. My prayers go out to you at this time, and hope you can just remember the good times. I know he was a great friend, Husband, Father, and Grandfather. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

He was always fair and honest, a man with integrity, morals and one that reflected how much he valued his family. He will be missed. We wish to extend our very deepest sympathy to John's family. We have known John for all of the 30+ years he worked at Sears. The lovely picture of him in the paper certainly depicts his lively personality. He was a great guy; we will definitely miss him; he has gone from our lives much too soon.

I grew up in the Sears tech shop where John was the manager. It was also where I had my first real job while in high school. Knowing John as a kid playing around in the shop, then evolving into an employee was a great experience for me. John was very kind and really made me feel valued as a young employee in the workforce. He showed appreciation to employees as he worked into through transitions at the office. Outside of the workplace, he was no different. As I grew up, he treated me with respect and was happy to take a moment to ask me how I was doing while I was finishing school in Pocatello. I was happy to step away from whatever I was doing if I saw John to say hi because no matter what, he always gave me encouragement to keep achieving my goals. He truly cared about those around him and will be greatly missed. My sincerest condolences go out to the Nelson family for their loss.
