Phillip Jerome Nickell, 63, passed away on December 22, 2015 at his home in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho after a battle with cancer.

Phil was born in Ashton, Idaho on February 1, 1952 to Kenneth G. Nickell and Frances Ware Nickell. He spent his early life in Lava Hot Springs, Idaho, Seattle, Washington and Ashton, Idaho. He graduated from North Fremont High School in 1970, where he was active in football and wrestling.

Despite being legally blind, he led a productive and self-sufficient life. He was kind and generous to all. He was a thoughtful uncle to his many nieces and nephews. He always went the extra mile for his family despite his own challenges.

He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth G. Nickell; step-mother, Virginia Nickell; sister, Kathleen Nickell; grandparents, Bill and Ann Ware and Clarence and Veta Ashley.

He is survived by his mother, Frances Nickell, Seattle, Washington; sisters, Lee (David) Lystrup, Henderson, Nevada, Denise (Rod) Dalling, St. Anthony, Idaho, Lisa (Brent) Sturman, Pocatello, Idaho; and brother, Jed Nickell, Ashton, Idaho.

My deepest condolences to the family on the loss of your loved one. When we lose someone we love in death, the pain, grief, and feelings of helplessness can seem unbearable. But remember that the Almighty God sees your tears, he feels your pain, and he will continue with you to comfort and sustain you through this difficult time. Because he cares for you. (1 Peter 5:7)
