Biography
John Kunze (Jack) passed away November 17, 2009 peacefully at home surrounded by family and friends. He was born on October 4 1940 to Charles and Mildred. Jack grew up in Pocatello and attended Lincoln elementary, Franklin Junior High and graduated from Pocatello High School in 1958. He attended college at the University of Idaho and Boise State University.
He enlisted in the Army in 1960. His was stationed in Paris and traveled Europe during his commission with the military. He met Jackie and they were married on February 2, 1968. They shared 42 years of marriage. Jackie and Jack shared many, many good times and memories . They enjoyed each other's company and companionship. Jack had many hobbies. He enjoyed hunting, fishing , camping , bowling and playing cards with his many family and friends. His greatest love was golf, golf and more golf. After retirement you could find Jack on the golf course with the “nooners” almost every day in the summer ,and the Odyssey golf league in the winter. He loved his yearly trip to Havasu in the spring and his beloved yearly trip to Mackay every summer for the Sammy Ivie’s golf tournament.
Jack worked for the Union Pacific Railroad for over 35 years in different capacities; majority of the time he was a engineer. Jack was a member of the Central Christian Church. He was also a mason of the Masonic Temple.
Jack has left behind his wife Jackie , two daughters, Tracy Davis and Michele Panzanaro, son, Matt Kunze (Jen Durham) and four grandchildren , Zachary ,James, Kolby and Chase, two sisters, Joann Beall and Darlene Thommason. He leaves behind his loving family and his many, many close and loyal friends.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents, two brother in laws Wilbur (Doc) Beall and Ken Thommason and a nephew John Beall.
A viewing will be held Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Ave, Pocatello and again one hour prior to the services on Saturday. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2009 at the funeral home with military honors following the services.
