Biography
William Thomas Luddy, Jr., passed away at 12:15 a.m. on November 20, 2009, in the peace of his home with his oldest son Ray and his loving wife Carol holding his hands. He had been diagnosed with stage four colon cancer that had spread to the liver, the first of September. Bill was 74.
William was born 13 of August, 1935 in Middleboro, MA, to William Thomas Luddy and Emma Delma Dube in St. Luke’s Hospital. The family moved to 323 Hyde park Avenue, Jamaica Plain, Boston, MA. His family later moved to 32 Riverview Street, Dedham, MA. In the sixth and seventh grade, Bill delivered the Boston Globe and the Post as a part time job and later delivered the Sunday papers which were the Boston Globe, and The Post and The Record American. Bill graduated from Dedham High School in 1955. In high school he joined the Marine Corp Reserves in active reserve time. In October 1955, he went into the Air Force where he spent four years active duty. He took Air Force Basic Training at Sampson Air Force Base, New York, and was stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base just out of Great Falls, Montana.
On June 30, 1957, Bill married Arlene Julia Chisholm in Readville, MA. While in Great Falls, Mt, Cindi Ann, Raymond William, David Thomas, and William Joseph were born to them. Before his discharge from the Air Force in 1959, Bill went to work for Garrett Freight Lines on the dock in Great Falls, later becoming dock foreman and worked there until 1967, then transferring to Pocatello where he was an over the road line driver.
In 1971, Michael Patrick was born and completed the family.
In 1983, Bill becomes a business agent for Teamsters Local 983 here in Pocatello. In 1985, Bill was elected as Secretary Treasurer of the Local and held that position until he retired in 1994. Bill represented and helped many people at various plants and companies around the area to have better benefits. Senior people who had 25 to 30 years of service were expected to work holidays at some plants. Bill changed this for many people and got them the holidays off they so rightly deserved. People really trusted, respected, and looked up to Bill for help and advice.
Bill was a member of the Elk’s Lodge #674.
In May, 1980, Bill and Arlene were divorced. Later, he married Virginia Larson and they later divorced.
On October 12, 1991, Bill married Carol Audrey McDaniel, his devoted, loving wife of 18 wonderful years. They had many wonderful trips to all parts of Canada, Prince Edward Island, and many Oceanside trips on different coastal areas.
Bill loved snowmobiling, family, working at Chesterfield, ID, helping, true friend, Steve Jensen restore his family historic home for the past 11 years. Bill loved cooking, he was a true chef and loved making good foods for his family to enjoy. Bill loved Christmas and shopping for it and wrapping presents and was so generous to both sides of the family. Bill loved life, his family, and his Carol Audrey.
Bill is survived by his wife, Carol; children: Cindy (Bill) Duncan, Ray, David, Bill (Shauna), Mike (Anna), Sheila (Steve) Luddy; Sister Helen Agnes Luddy; brother John Jospeh Luddy; grandchildren Amber, Kyle, Chloe, and Alec.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 24, 2009, at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S 4th Ave. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2009, also at Colonial Funeral Home. There will also be a visitation one hour prior to the funeral service. Burial will follow at Grove City Cemetery in Blackfoot, Idaho.
