Esther Dorothy Bopp

September 13, 1927 ~ January 6, 2021 (age 93)

Esther Dorothy (Kinsfather) Bopp, 93, passed away on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 in Pocatello, Idaho. Esther was born in Jerome, Idaho, on September 13, 1927. Her parents, Phillip and Dorothy, were farmers in Jerome, Idaho.  As the eldest sister, Esther looked after her younger siblings, providing, at times, a place to stay, some vittles to eat, and some “kind” sisterly guidance as they worked towards becoming independent.

At the close of the war, Esther had the good fortune of meeting a soldier at the Radio Rendezvous dance hall in downtown Twin Falls, Idaho.  That soldier, Bobby Bopp, would later become her husband for 73 years.  They were married in 1947, and over the next 60 years they resided in Twin Falls where they raised their sons, Robert and Ron.

Esther began work as a legal secretary for Frank and Bob Stephan.  She later became their office manager, probated hundreds of estates and supported the growth of the firm and numerous lawyers over the next 55 years.   Esther was very active in her community, especially the Cub/Boy Scouts, service for Immanuel Lutheran Church/School, holding membership in a professional secretary’s sorority, and teaching at the College of Southern Idaho. From humble beginnings, Esther and her husband Bob became pillars in their community.

Esther’s love and commitment to family was always evident.  Family dinners, holiday events, frequent “get togethers”, Sun Valley cabin memories, and family snowmobiling in Stanley with her brother Howard and family were cherished times.  One of the Bopp family snowmobiling trips was to go through Yellowstone National Park (1979) when the wake up temperature was 480 below zero!  Bob and Esther spent countless weekends at their cabin and hosted family reunions and shared their get-away for many friends to enjoy. In later years, Esther was the eyes and Bob the “better” ears for decades as she became the chauffer for the couple.

Bob and Esther lived their retirement years to the fullest, traveling to ALL of the continents sans Antarctica, but they did sail in its waters when they traveled around Cape Horn.  Many travel experiences, especially cruising with family and friends, were cherished memories for Bob and Esther. Memorable sailings took them to see their grandson John in Spain and many adventures in later years had granddaughter, Sam, in tow as their escort and chief navigator (especially trying to keep track of Grandpa)!

Bob and Esther fully embraced their role as proud parents and grandparents.  Robert and Julie’s children, John and Katie, enjoyed the early years of school breaks in Idaho and car trips across the west with Grandma and Grandpa.  By the time Ron and Anne’s children Sam, Ben, and Ryan were growing up, Bob and Esther moved to Pocatello and gladly embraced their new roles supporting their grandkids in all their activities – attending numerous sporting events, chauffeuring duties, dinners out, and cruise adventures all over the world.  Ultimately, Esther had the pleasure of welcoming to the family two great-grandchildren, Eloise and Madeline Hunt.

Esther is survived by her sons Robert (Julie) & Ron (Anne) Bopp, grandchildren John Bopp (Sebastian Arana), Katie (Kyle) Hunt, Samantha, Ben, and Ryan Bopp, great-grandchildren Eloise and Madeline Hunt, sister Marie (Larry) Rodgers and brother Howard (Vivienne) Kinsfather.  Esther was preceded in death by her husband Bobby this past October and earlier siblings Alec, Jim, and Joanne, as well as numerous cherished Bopp family members.

A memorial service to give thanks to God for Esther will be scheduled at a later date in the spring/summer of 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church in Pocatello, Idaho to allow for all family/friends to be present to remember the lives of both Bobby and Esther.  The family would like to share a special thank you to the staff at Quail Ridge Assisted Living who became a second family to Esther and Bob during their residence there these past few years.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Esther's name to Grace Lutheran School, 1350 Baldy Ave, Pocatello, Idaho 83201.
