Obituary

Garold Lorraine Priest was born on September 12, 1929 in Jamestown, Idaho to Lester Priest and Veda Laura Mace Priest. He has two older brothers, DeWayne and Ray and two younger brothers, Reed and Gary. Garold lived most of his childhood in Teton City, ID, graduating from the 8th grade there. He worked on farms and in the potatoes for his uncle, Rulan Hughes. He attended his Freshman year of high school in St. Anthony, Idaho. When he was 17 yrs. old, he joined the Army, Feb. 11, 1947 and served most of his time at Fort Lawton, Washington. He received a discharge on July 26,1948. He made many life-long friends there.

Garold met Susie in March of 1949 and they were married a year later. Garold Lorraine Priest married Susie Anna Beth Fisher on March 11, 1950 at Driggs, Idaho. Susie is the daughter of Lester Hyrum Fisher and Elizabeth Margarette Seymour Fisher. She was born September 3, 1930 in Driggs, Idaho. She has two brothers, Robert Milton Fisher and Lester Marvin Fisher.

Garold L. Priest and Susie Anna Beth Fisher Priest had three sons. Dennis Garold Priest /born November 26, 1950 in St. Anthony, ID, Lester Lorranie Priest /born in St. Anthony, ID on July 15, 1952 and Norris Kay Priest /born in Rexburg, ID on September 2, 1953. Norris Kay Priest /deceased August 12, 1980 in Nampa, Idaho and buried in Pocatello, ID. (he died of pneumonia and an abscessed lung.) Two of our sons were born with P K U, a metabolic disorder that causes mental retardation if not treated in infancy. There was no treatment when they were babies. Now there is a blood test required in all hospitals for P K U.

Garold and Susie lived in Teton City the first year and a half then moved to St. Anthony, ID for 5 years. They then moved to Pocatello, ID for 30 Years before being transferred to California in 1986. They lived in El Sobrante, CA for 6 years then moved back to their home in Pocatello, ID. Garold worked on farms, in construction, in the potato warehouses, and then got on at the flour mill in St. Anthony, ID. He worked there for 5 years before it closed. Garold then worked at Garrett Freight Lines in Pocatello, ID, for 35 years. Garold retired at age 60 when Garrett (A N R) went out of business.

Now Garold and Susie live in Pocatello, ID for 6 and a half months then travel South to spend the winter months at Havasu Lake, CA. Garold has many friends that go to Havasu too. Garold is always willing to help someone and he never meets a stranger. He loves to visit with people, and he believes that if you don't have friends you don't have anything.

Garold and Susie have a great daughter-in-law and two neat grandchildren. Lester L. Priest married Barbara Ooley on November 13, 1974. Grandchildren are Amanda Nicole Priest /born in Boise, ID March 21, 1984 and Andrew Michael Priest /born in Boise, ID September 21, 1989.

Garold and Susie celebrated their 45th anniversary last February 11, 1995. The Havasu friends had champagne around the bon-fire by Lake Havasu, CA. They celebrated their 50th at Lake Havasu, their 60th in Parker, AZ, and their 70th at Cottonwood Cove in Pocatello, ID, where they have spent the last 10 years. Garold loved everyone there. Susie had a stroke and Garold developed pneumonia which put them both in the hospital. Susie turned 90 on September 3, 2020 while in the hospital. They then were moved to Brookdale Assisted Living where Garold turned 91. He couldn’t get over the pneumonia and passed away Friday morning, October 9, 2020 at 12:55 am.

Graveside services, with Military Honors, will take place on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at 2 pm, at Restlawn Memorial Gardens, 2864 S. 5th Ave. Pocatello, ID.
