Stanley Dawson

April 1, 1941 ~ September 8, 2020 (age 79)

Stanley E. Dawson was born April 1, 1941 in Pocatello, Idaho to Mary Eloise Christman and Lester Stanley Dawson.  Stan grew up on a small farm in the Fort Hall area.  He milked cows by hand and raked hay using his horses, “Prince and Dewy”.  He attended school at Tyhee Elementary, Hawthorne Junior High and Pocatello High School.  After high school, Stan joined the Navy and served for two years in Hawaii.  He was proud to serve his county.

Stan was a hard worker and had many jobs throughout his life including delivery driver, welder, cattle hand, mechanic, carpenter and handyman.  There was not a job he could not do.  He learned to be a horse farrier and always put his family’s horses first.  He was a high school rodeo director in American Falls and was the best pole bending liner to ever do the job.

Stan enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding horses, rodeo, posse, good food and family.  He loved watching his children and grandchildren at their sporting events and went to all of them until health problems made it so he couldn’t any longer.

Stan was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.  His testimony of his Savior was unwavering.  Stan returned to his Heavenly Father on September 8, 2020 surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his best friend and loving wife of 44 years, Juliana Dawson.  He is also survived by his children, Tonya (Neil) Gibbs, Connie (Lee) Buxton, Tammy (Perry) Easter, Danae (Bill) Elowski, Kelly Hansen, Kevin (Jennifer) Dawson, Melissa (Mike) O’Brien, Melanie (Justin) Williams, and Andrea (Jimmy) Torres; his sister, Sharon Nelson; and brother, John Keith Dawson.  Stan was the best grandpa to 25 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.

A viewing will be held for family and friends on Sunday, September 13, 2020 at Colonial Funeral Home, 2005 S. 4th Avenue, Pocatello, Idaho from 6:00-8:00 p.m.  A graveside service will be held Monday, September 14, 2020 at Norton Cemetery in McCammon, Idaho at 2:00 p.m.
